IOE DISSERTATION HANDBOOK
Students should always check the immigration requirements for the UK before leaving their home country. All IOE students are required to submit a form seeking ethical approval before undertaking any empirical work. International students Country-specific information, including details of when UCL representatives are visiting your part of the world, can be obtained from the International Students website. This is one of the longest-running EdD programmes within the UK and consistently recruits the largest EdD cohort in the country, granting our EdD students access to a unique selection of fellow education practitioners to work with during the programme. The total time to complete depends on the time taken to complete the thesis.

Students are advised to apply as early as possible due to competition for places. More information can be found on the department hancbook Applications should include the abstract of the conference presentation and written confirmation that the paper has been accepted. The student cohort provides an important element of the programme. Students on a Tier IV visa can apply to this scheme in order to gain an additional 12 months of Tier 4 immigration permission in which to gain experience in their specific field or seek skilled work.

The EdD has a rolling application process so early application is advised if a place is to be secured for the coming academic year. Please note that during a period of interruption, there will be no formal supervisory meetings and disserattion access will be suspended. There is one compulsory course, which provides an introduction to doctoral study; this runs four times each year, in a variety of formats to ensure that it is available to all students.
All IOE students are required to submit iioe form seeking ethical approval before undertaking any empirical work. This will need to be signed by the supervisor, who will pass it on to the Departmental Graduate Tutor for processing. Writing for publication Many students seek to publish their doctoral work, either during or after their studies.
All students will be interviewed by the programme leader and potential supervisor before being offered a place on the EdD programme. Instructions on how to set the lock code is inside each locker. Interviews usually happen within six weeks of the complete application with all requested documents being received. UCL has prepared general advice about the procedure for viva examinationsincluding how to prepare and some things to expect during the viva.
Courses provided centrally by UCL can be booked through the Log, and will be recorded within the system automatically. For all IOE doctoral examinations, an independent chair will be appointed.
In addition, each EdD student will work with a research supervisor.
